Black Pepper

Black Pepper has a sharp, pungent flavor with a hint of heat. It's versatile and enhances the taste of almost any dish. It is a part of the perennial vine of the pepper family, known as Piperaceae. It is also a large flowering plant. The hot, pungent spice is made from its fruits. Black pepper is one of the earliest known spices and is native to the Malabar Coast of India.  It adds depth and heat to dishes because of its sharp, pungent flavor. Black pepper is a spice used in many cuisines around the world. 

Seasoning:  Commonly used as a seasoning for meats, vegetables, and salads.

Spice Blends: A key ingredient in spice blends like garam masala and herbes de Provence.

Marinades:  Enhances the flavor of marinades for meats and vegetables.

Mustard Seeds Mustard seeds have a sharp, pungent flavor. It intensifies when you grind them or mix them with liquid. The first use of mustard seeds dates back to the Stone Age. The Sumerians of Mesopotamia would grind mustard seeds into a paste. They used it as an ingredient in unripe grape juice. The ancient Egyptians used mustard seeds for seasoning their food. Archaeologists discovered mustard seeds in the tomb of Tutankhamun.

Condiments: Ground mustard seeds from the mustard plant are the base for mustard condiments like table mustard. 

Spice Blends: Used in blends like Dijon mustard, curry powder and five-spice powder.

Cooking: Used whole in Indian cooking to give a kick to various dishes. Also used in marinades and sauces.
